Exercise 7b

We were required to make a composition representing a polyrhythm using wooden sticks. Each will be stabbed into the cardboard in various angles.

Elements were 8mm corrugated cardboard 20,5x29 cm covered with black paper and wooden sticks.

This composition is shown as follows with different perspectives.

As I showed, I made different angles within the sticks and the black ground. They were aimed to show combination of circular black cardboard shapes and more wavy shapes ,which is also 3d, established by changing the size ang angle of these sticks relatively. In this way, I have made polyrhythm which born thanks to these various rules.

Exercise 6c

We were asked to make a 3d design that makes use of hierarchy. Also we were allowed to use glue or other construction techniques. Meanwhile, this design should be consisting of at least number of 67 2d elements which could include squares, rectangles and isosceles right triangles. In addition to this, our design should be occupy a volume of approximately 27000 cm³.

In these conditions, I have made 3 different types of groups which are called A,B,C.

GROUP A
 From different perspectives;

The instructors liked the void flowing which is required. They only don't like the corner connections.

GROUP B

Even if this group is a little bit tiny, it has bigger quantities such as connecting more than one group.

It was including only one rectengular shape. Except for this, this group was good.

GROUP C

While making this group I have thought the size. That's why this group's size is bigger than the others. However, this doesn't mean that it is a fault. It was well-prepared and perfect matched with other groups.

THE COMPLEMENT

Before talking about the complement, I had a draft model, which is existing to get critisized has smashed by one of the instructors. This is not a problem actually because I learned what I have to do. But I just want to dedicate because I couldn't take a completed draft photograph.

It was actually well designed, established void flowing, established hierarchy design. From different perspectives, it is more obvious. Except for small points, it is well.

Exercise 6b

We were expected to make 2d composition representing the concept of hierarchy by using only rectengular elements..

-Black Cardboard (29x41cm)   -Craft Paper(as I wish)   -Newspaper(black&white) was given as elements.

And in my composition, there were 2 tiny problems. One of them is dedicating photographs or words. Other one was not using black cardboard effectively as a composition element and also using craft paper as if it's a line. While instructers were speaking I noticed these flows. The remaining parts were fine, though. That is, this composition includes hierarchy inside which is the main quality.

Exercise 5c

I did a 3D design that mates use of dominance and contrast. I was free to use glue or other construction techniques. GİVEN (11 square, 19 rectangle, 23 isosceles right triangles) But the smallest unit of the measuring system ought to be 2,5 cm and I ought to determine the sizes of my planar elements accordingly by using 2mm corrugated cardboard.

There were 2 main types of groups in my design. Group A as one type of group has 3 differentiated versions which look like simirlar , actually they are different.

GROUP A

This is one version of group A and there are 2 different rotated ones of that which are combining together in a reasonable way. Combined shape of these groups are shown below.

GROUP B

This group plays an essential role in the totality of the model because this group not only breaks the symmetry , also makes a compact model.

THE COMPLEMENT

The compact looks like a little bit symmetrical but it can be acceptable.

Exercise 5b

We were desired to 2D composition representing concepts of dominance/contrast by using paper band (width of 1cm) and black cardboard (29x41cm). (Stripes of paper band should span from edge to edge.) I used half measures to show dominance of this big black rectangle. Indeed, there is a dominance which is created by different sized rectangles. But some of black rectangles look like line. From the knowledge which I learned after the lesson explains the fact that shapes (which I created) should keep their identities. I will keep it in mind

Exercise 4

We were asked to make a model which includes 5 square (9x9cm), 9 rectangle (6x9cm), 11 isosceles right triangle with sides length 9cm)

GROUP A

I made this group 2 times so that this completed group enables the remaining elements to have suitable numbers. Although, this group has one symmetrical axis, the whole as a union of groups has not any symmetrical axis.

GROUP B
This group was done after first group is completed. There were 3 samples of each type of elements and I combined them in both logical and symmetrical way. As opposed to this, there is no symmetrical view at the finished version.

THE COMPLETED ONE

This whole has completed in the way that there is no weak connection and unrelated parts.
